Xomba Wants You To Vote

Xomba Wants You To Vote

Hey Everyone,

Great News!!!

Each category now displays the highest rated Xombytes and Xomblurbs posted in the last 30 days. We added two new blocks in the top right in each category displaying the information.

User profile pages will now display that user's highest rated Xomblurbs and Xombytes posted in the last 30 days as well. Just scroll down to the bottom of the profile page.

If you don't see anything then it's because no one has voted on their blurbs or bytes. To make things fair you can vote once on all your own articles. So everything, should technically have a +1 on it.

Don't be afraid to vote.
To make sure quality content gets more exposure on Xomba make sure you vote! You can vote once per article (including your own articles). You cannot down vote or subtract any votes from the total. The worst you can do to an article is not vote for it.

The new contest winners are on the front page. Be sure to check them out. Next month we'll take into account Xombytes that are the highest rated. However, we still want you nominating them. Ratings will be looked at to break ties.

Warning: if you create accounts just to get more votes on your own articles we will ban all your accounts.

You may notice some changes on the voting blocks over the next month, but have no fear we're just tweaking the look.

Feel free to share your thoughts,

Xomba Team

Love Xomba

I just love writing on Xomba. Nick and the Xomba Moderators are great and always fair. They are also quick to respond to your questions and concerns. I have read some very interesting articles here on Xomba - more interesting than some of the other sites. And the potential to earn income is just great. Why would anyone be negative about such a great site?

Reads back...

Great to know reads will be back or at least you are trying to get it back!...missin it badly... there's only so much one can track with adsense or counters. afterall everyone writes for appreciation...and it was so good to find he improved reads count on every opening of bytes or blurbs. The site looks very efficient now... But there are two buddylists on the left column. I love the buddyposts. http://www.xomba.com/easter_bunnies_and_easter_lilies_0 Make Money. Join XOMBA! Xomba for all....

Celanith, you pretty much summed up the issue in the first few sentences of your post: celanith wrote: They are into celebrity gossip and yellow journalism, political bashing and trashing, sports, and things that to me are boring so I don't much care to read their stuff and most don't care to read mine. I mean if you are not interested in what others write then why should others have interest in your post. Moreover, boring for one maybe interesting for another. I feel Xomba is the most democratic medium for expression and does offer a good blend for everyone to write and read here. If people are not reading your posts (yet), how can you fault Xomba for that? There is enough for everyone here. I have yet to find someone who was disappointed with Xomba ( both in terms of content and layout) - that includes people above 40's. Categories is an excellent tool to go to the type of content you like to read. And let me tell you i do like to read poetry and stories. I am sure you will find fun here. Sometimes you got to do the right things and not things right. Hope you find happiness here.

Finding content you like

As Nick says, nobody has to read content that they don't like. To find content that you DO like, I'd suggest using the Search feature to look for subjects that you're interested in. Or go to the Category listings and find a category you like and browse the articles there. Just because there's a lot of stuff you don't like on the front page doesn't mean that's all there is on Xomba.

The thing is the whole reason for writing it to be read

Celanith However what I like to write about seldom gets read people don't seem to like stories, human interest, poetry. They are into celebrity gossip and yellow journalism, political bashing and trashing, sports, and things that to me are boring so I don't much care to read their stuff and most don't care to read mine. So we got a problem here in those of us who prefer more human interest, pet, kid, family stories and articles they are the lest read, won't ever get top rating and that is plain not fair. Because too many want the gossip, sports and politics and things I am sick of hearing from the news media already. I want to come online and read some interesting stuff that is not on the news or t.v Entertainment or sports. That is why I mostly write elsewhere and I have read the side bar stuff and most is NOT interesting. It is geared yet again to younger generations under 40. Go take a look at some of the other forums and find out what I am talking about. It isn't going to hurt you and it might even help Xomba to improve even more. I don't recommend Xomba to my friends much the ones I did my age 40 and up said the same as I do not much here to hold our interest and the front page is what catches the eye first the recent Xombytes and blurbs the hot tags, and when they see sports, celebrity gossip and the like it is a turn off. The younger readers don't seem interested in reading what I write and so how am I ever going to get top rating so basically Xomba is age discriminatory toward older people and what interests us. Grandkids, Health, Gardening, Poetry, Walking and Photography, Travel and Vacation with human interest and I hate the xomblurbs or most of them. I don't think it is right people get points for other peoples links they created. It is not quite but close to copyright theft. I would not want someone giving a link on something I created to get points for it without my permission. Though I am guilty of putting up a few xomblurbs to see what interest it would generate most didn't get much attention. If someone cannot be creative in writing and has to rely on someone else's created Utube link or other creative link then that really is getting points for someone else's idea anyway. Just my peronal opinion.

Celanith

Hello everyone, stop and set awhile.

Recently viewed

The Recently Viewed list didn't have anything to do with reads, though... it was just a listing of whatever had been viewed ... I didn't think it had anything to do with reads or how many people read a post, just a glance at what had been viewed recently.

I wish

I wish when a user posted something it just automatically put a 1 beside it. That way you would automatically vote for your own stuff. This system won't be changing though. I understand the positives and negatives for both. We've got big ideas for the voting thing just stay tuned. We also have an idea of how you can flag favorite articles as well. Kind of like bookmarks that will list on your profile.

noted

It's impossible to do right now until we get reads back. Which we are making some headway with.

I'll get on my soapbox again

to lobby for the return of the "Recently Viewed" list. Basically it was a list of what xombytes happen to have been viewed recently, without regard to age of the article or category or whatever. I found it a great way to discover older and less-viewed stuff that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Voting

I don't think it makes sense to vote for oneself. As Nick says above, when a post has only one vote, you can pretty much assume it was from the person who wrote it. So I ignore any post with one vote. When Xomba has a previously voting system, a person couldn't vote for their own posts. People hated that old system (as did I), but now I have to say that I preferred that one to the current one. Just one Xombie's opinion.
