Xomba's Surprise Tricks and Treats

Xomba's Surprise Tricks and Treats

Halloween is always eventful around our house.  We usually carve pumpkins for all the people who aren't strong enough (read: kids and uncle) to do it themselves.  We roast pumpkin seeds, play with the pumpkins "guts," make chili and then go trick or treating with the kids for hours.  Halloween is easily as busy as Christmas around here.

This year, though...there was a distraction.

My Google Adsense account had been percolating throughout the week, gradually gaining momentum as Halloween approached.  I logged in multiple times each day to monitor the clicks and dollars adding up.  As Friday night approached, I was making more than I'd ever made at Adsense before.  I'd hit the Xomba "jackpot!"

I decided on Friday night to figure out why I was getting so many hits.  A simple Google search provided the answer.  One of my articles was listed third in the google search.  Third!  When Jeremy and Nick tell you we're high up in the search engines around here, they are telling you the truth!

I happily logged in multiple times on Saturday. More and more clicks.  Now I've never had this happen before and it took me nigh on a year to make my first $100.  I passed $100 just last week for the second time before the major chaos of my Google account so I wasn't paying much attention to the account.  This whole thing was really surprising.  The account was still rolling during Saturday and although it has slowed down considerably since Halloween ended, it's still chugging along at a better clip than before.

For those of you starting at Xomba, choose articles that fill a niche based on need.  People "need" information.  Pick the obscure facts, the unknown things that kids need to research in school.  Health topics, gardening, pet care - all of these topics provide essential information for readers.  These mainstays keep your Adsense account happily percolating like a coffee maker until you hit the mother lode.

For example, my two biggest earners include "The Deepest Point in the Ocean" and "The Average Salaries of NBA Players."  Strange but true.  Do these articles earn me alot of money?  No, but the content is so good, I don't need to worry because it's evergreen well into the future.

So what is evergreen content?  It's content that lasts for a long time. Writing evergreen content allows you to create lasting content for the search engines.  You don't need to update it, change it or adjust dates, names and facts if you don't want to.

Now I don't make a ton of money with these two articles but it's consistant enough for me to really wonder what would happen if I had 100 articles doing the same.  I estimate about $150-200 per month in Adsense revenue.

I didn't do anything special this past week.  I didn't even check Google Adwords.  I simply typed in the topic in the search engine box and took a look at the things that came up.  I used these words as my tags and published the Xombyte.  And off it went.

I share this story because I've been a member here for a long time.  I haven't seen the success that I could because I spend alot of time working on other gigs as a freelance writer.  This leaves little time for adding content to Xomba.  However, I devoted about 3 hours last week to posting items on Xomba and look what happened.  I'm hooked and I've added this as a regular, daily work activity..  Although I've been visiting Xomba daily, I do it to read what friends are writing and who's new, etc.  I'm posting regularly from here on out!

Make a plan to submit high quality content to Xomba every day.  Let your mind roll around ideas when you aren't on your computer and put this plan into action when you have a spare hour each day. Write concise, readable Xombytes and Xomblurbs and you'll see your Google Adsense account roll.  Mix up your content with simple and complex items.  An article doesn't need to be a novel to get the point across.

Good luck and thanks Abmox!
