XomBoy Contest

Be a member of an open-minded and well leaded online community as Xomba can be very useful: just a couple of days ago I was reading some very old Xomba’s articles in my Buddy Posts, when I’ve found something about an old contest with points for Xomblurbs. This article gave me an inspiration, concerning the way to motivate people.

I am always looking for new ideas to motivate guys to be concentrated and to play piano better: the most of my male students are willing to play good only when they have a public and important performance, but we haven’t concerts every week!
In the past time I was really interested about female and male’s different learning styles. Everyone moreover for example has a different SEX ID.

As mum and as piano teacher I’ve often noticed that boys have another way to learn something as girls and I’ve tried to find out how I could improve my teaching respecting the gender’s diversities.
You can read something about on:

As woman it is not difficult to teach girls: until they are 13-14 years old (puberty, difficult period!), girls are diligent pupils and just like to play piano for me or for mum well. I’ve to tell them about very beautiful things like princess, flowers etc. and, the most important point, girls are concentrated for the whole lesson.
Concerning piano playing, girls have a better coordination and manual abilities and that’s why they learn instruments apparently faster .

Boys learn just others: I’ve to focus my teaching points very well and to tell just one simple thing after the other. In this way they are able to build wonderful castles, really step by step. Sometimes these steps must be very little short sections.
Boys have however better performances than girls in events like concerts, competitions, contests etc.
In such situations girls are easily nervous and make many mistakes (no concentration), while boys are cool and play piano very well (100% concentrated).

Then I’ve had a wonderful idea(I hope!:-) : a piano class contest only for boys with this xomba’s point system!
All my male students take part in this contest: they become 10 points for a very well played piano piece.
That means, I give during the lesson for example 1 point for a perfect right hand, 1 point for a beautiful sound and so on until 10 and the first pupil with 100 points (10 pieces) has won.

To make the contest more interesting, I have in mind to write daily the results on our homepage (on a blog) : in this way the students will be able to control their scores and the competition (and perhaps, I hope, to practice more and better at home too).
I’ve started just yesterday and it was wonderful to see how all the boys was really concentrated during the lesson in order to earn points and at least not with the head in the cloudsJ!

I thank the XombaTeam for the inspiration!
