The Hawaii High School Athletic Association Zippy's State Cheerleading Championships will soon be held in Oahu's Stan Sheriff Center. There are 13 high school cheerleading teams competing in the medium division and 4 cheerleading teams competing in the large division with Moanalua High School up first. The Radford High School cheerleaders are looking to claim their third straight state cheerleading title in the medium division while the Mililani High School cheering squad is defending their large division title.

50 First Dates

One of my favorite movies of all time is 50 First Dates starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. The movie opens in the Huki Lau Cafe - a local diner where Henry meets Lucy for the first time. For reference, a hukilau is actually an old Hawaiian way to catch a lot of fish. Huki means to pull and lau means leaf. The Hawaiians caught a lot of fish at a hukilau. The Ti leaves that hung down from the net made shadows that scared the fish into the middle of the net. The Hawaiians scared the fish away too. A lot of people gathered around to help pull in the net. The Hawaiians had a lot of fun working together at a hukilau. The Hawaiians shared the fish that they caught.

After finishing 9th in the final BCS standings, the West Virginia University WVU Mountaineers will be going to the 37th Annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl to face the Oklahoma Sooners. The game will be played Wednesday, January 2nd at 7:30pm at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale AZ. The WVU Mountaineers, ranked 2nd in the BCS standings heading into the game with Pitt, appeared to be bound for the National Championship Game, before losing 13-9 to the Panthers.

The Georgia Bulldogs will be playing a bowl game in New Orleans, it just won't be the BCS championship game. LSU vaulted over Georgia to nab a spot in the title game against Ohio State, leaving the Dogs to play in the Sugar Bowl against Hawaii.
