To Thy Known Self The Truth

Do you ever wonder if things factually happened the way they were represented in that recent video documentary or history book you just read? I do.

Let's take the recent history of the computer revolution (as some have called it), I personally don't see the revolution--I see an evolution. Over the years I have been told about documentaries such as "Revolution OS," "Pirates of Silicon Valley," and "Triumph of the Nerds." I had seen "Triumph Of The Nerds" on PBS' affiliate station WHYY, channel 12 in Philadelphia years ago, I think it was 1997. But not the other two. Recently I got the chance to view all three.

My Own ISP

I was looking over my resume today—which I haven't kept up-to-date.

When I glanced over the part where I wrote about my adventures as a one man Internet Services Provider, I get a sense of wow come over me. I would never even bother with doing something like this today. Things have changed so much. You see, I physically ran everything from my apartment in Philadelphia. There were no third parties involved (except my upstream provider).

What's Really Wrong With Healthcare In America

Every time Michael Moore comes out with a documentary on a specific subject on what is ailing the United States of America, everyone becomes an expert on the subject and still others make the suggestion that this is why they need Michael Moore, what would they do without Michael Moore?

Hic Jacet Nelsonius

One of the things that I love to do to relax is teach myself Latin. I take it easy, it will probably take me the rest of my life, but hey... I have time. :)

Puerto Rico has the bad habit of leaving us without electricity every now and then, and it is at this time that I always utter the following words in Latin "Hic jacet Nelsonius"--Here lies Nelson. Power failures almost always happen when I have nothing else to do except my work, which is rudely interrupted by the lack of power. So I take that time to sit down and start my Latin lessons.

FireFox And Awesome Security Add-ons

OK, those of you browsing with FireFox already know how great it's security is as compared to IE.

But did you know about these great security add-ons?

Key Scrambler - Although this add-on is not open source it's free version does protect you from key loggers when you are about to enter your user id and password on any web forms online. It encrypts your key strokes from the keyboard driver all the way to the browser. The commercial version does this for all your OS key strokes.

Yuwie's Social Network

I am a newbie when it comes to social networks even though I have had an account at MySpace for years. For reasons I can't explain, I never really took advantage of MySpace. But I have since become a member of a few social networks, like toksee, that I think will actually help me grow more online. It really helps also that these new social networks will pay me, even if it is peanuts.

You Think Bloggers Are Narcissistic?

This morning I decided to just go on a reading rampage and I somehow landed on Emily Gould's Essay, Exposed, on the New York Times website. This article can really, and truly (that's a first) be summed up by its heading on the front page of the New York Times, What I Gained, and Lost, By Writing Online. Usually headings are deceiving or hyped to attract your attention.
