Yelena Isinbayeva Does Her Talking on the Field, Sets New Record, Wins Gold
Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva knows where the real talking is done during the Olympic Games. Pity her American counterpart does not. U.S. pole vaulter Jenn Stuczynski made a tactical mistake by trash talking, bragging, "I hope we do some damage," she had said, "and, you know, kick some Russian butt."
The best that Stuczynski could manage during the competition was 4.80 meters. All she could do from then on was sit and watch. The Russian cleared 4.85 to win gold. Then, as if to add an exclamation point to the medal, she cleared 5.05 meters on her third attempt, breaking her own record in the process.
Hopefully, Stuczynski learns that the best at anything don't need to talk about it beforehand.
