You Can Click But You Can't Hide | MPAA Warning About Internet Piracy
posted November 23, 2008 - 12:01amAccording to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA):
Anyone who sells, acquires, copies or distributes copyrighted materials without permission is called a pirate.
People often download movies on the Internet because they believe they are anonymous and will not be held responsible for their actions. They are wrong. The illegal downloading and swapping of movie files is a serious crime. Pirates and their affiliates can and will be tracked for engaging in Internet piracy.
The MPAA is aggressively going after anyone who downloads copyrighted movies without permission. In fact they have prosecuted individuals successfully in the last few years, nationally and internationally. According to the MPAA, you have committed a felony if you host, link to, or download any copyrighted movie. According to the organization you are a 'movie thief' and you are 'committed to piracy.' They are also going after people who are involved in "theatrical camcorder piracy."
