You could be publishing your own newsletter
posted July 21, 2007 - 12:50pmThose of us who are working toward making a living online see them every day; one Internet marketing expert or another has sent their idea of the best way to market online. Many times, the gist of the message is the same as any number of others received on the same day. The underlying theme of many of these is to build a list of subscribers. Some of them are from people that have become "household names" as far as the Internet is concerned, and they became that way by building their list of subscribers. Wouldn't be nice to have a list of your own? You can, you know. Want to know how? Keep reading.
Many of us expect the word "subscribers" to mean that we need to publish a newsletter or ezine to have a list of subscribers. This is a good way to do so, but most of us don't have the skills or the time to write a whole newsletter at regular intervals. So instead of gaining subscribers, we become subscribers.
What we fail to notice many times is that all those newsletters and ezines that arrive in our inboxes daily are excellent sources for us to base our own publications on. Many online publishers are more than happy for us to borrow their work as long as we notify them and give them proper credit. Read two or three of today's newsletters, for example, and they will probably have the same theme. The wording is different, but the concepts, and often times, are the same. So why shouldn't we capitalize on this and follow the industry leaders.
It is really simple to get started.
-First Start saving newsletters with messages you believe to be important. Once you have a few, Read them and re-write the ideas in your own words. Save your new document and move on to the next.
-Once you have written several articles of your own, set up a free autoresponder account for your newsletter. There are several good ones, but the one I prefer is http://emailaces.com. Load your newsletters into the autoresponder, preferably with a seven day delay between each one. Be sure to make your first issue number two, because you want to reserve the number one slot for your thank you page.
-If your autoresponder has a footer feature, add a short paragraph about your favorite program. This will automatically add it to every message the autoresponder sends out. You may also have a header feature, too. Make sure the name of your newsletter is featured prominently here. Additional programs can be added as well. Obviously, you will want to change these periodically.
-About your thank you page. Obviously, you will be thanking your new subscriber for signing up for your newsletter. This message is one of the single most useful tools that your newsletter gives you. It allows you to give your new subscriber a reason to remember who you are, and why they want to receive your newsletter every week. You should start with the normal thank you for subscribing to "ABC Newsletter", followed by a short paragraph about your favorite program, and how it will benefit your new subscriber. You should also add this same paragraph as the signature for each issue of your newsletter, too. End this message with your name, and some select contact information. Then add a P.S. that includes a thank you gift just because you are so happy to have them for your subscriber.
-Now, obviously, you need to add new content to your newsletter regularly, but luckily for you, there are more newsletters piling up in your inbox to give you inspiration and ideas.
One last thing - Building a list of subscribers is all about building relationships. At least once a month, but preferably every other week, send everyone on your subscriber list a "personal" message from you. This is a good opportunity to tell them about any new programs you have learned about, and makes them feel like they are your most prized customer.
