You Couldn't Get Me Into a Shopping Mall on Black Friday at Gun Point

You Couldn't Get Me Into a Shopping Mall on Black Friday at Gun Point

Here's a little Chrismas greeting card I sold many years ago:

Outside: Lots of people enjoy the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping.

Inside: What f'n planet are they from?

That pretty much sums up the way I feel about crowds. If you're one of those who gets into the holiday adrenaline rush of jam packed stores -- and the whole ambiance of the experience -- more power to you. But you'd have to shoot me first, then drag my lifeless body into Target, Wal-Mart, or and of the other countless discount retail outlets on Black Friday.

My biggest problem is lack of patience -- that and inconsiderate people who deserve a serious jolt to their behind with an iron boot for slowing my usual pace. Then there's the people who weren't aware they were over their credit limit as everyone waits in the check-out line while the whole embarrassing moment gets sorted out.

I don't really like being in the shopping malls at all during the holidays if I can help it. Those damn Christmas carols have already gotten on my tit, and it's not even December yet. Just call me Ebenezer.

Before you go thinking I'm a complete curmudgeon, I'd just like to go on record as saying that, deep down, I'm really a people person -- that is until I have to deal with hordes of cheerful idiots, all hopped on caffeine and the Christmas spirit.

Hey, to each his/her own.

From what I've heard...

It's absolutely crazy on black friday. I'm 18 years old and I won't step foot in any store on black friday. I posted an article earlier about a 34 year old walmart employee who died earlier because he was crushed with the crowd that rushed into the store. that's madness!

Agree

Why go to all that trouble and wait in line for hours? Too much hassle for me.

Parents actually drag small children out before 4am

When my wife and I did the Black Friday OMG-its-so-frikkin-early-to-be-up thing a couple of years ago, we were shocked to see parents waiting in line with small (we're talking <4 years old) in front of Best Buy before 4am. Considering the line actually started before midnight in talking to store employees, I can only wonder what the h-e-double L those parents were thinking. I know what my wife and I were thinking: if their budget is so tight that they needed to expose their small children to the elements that early, they didn't really need what they were waiting in line to buy. That's not to mention the affect the crying kids had on the other people waiting in line. My son was not even 1 year at the time and I couldn't have considered anything at the time that was worth buying that would make me do that to him. Even now, with my son approaching 4, I wouldn't do it. We shop online or he goes to my wife's mom's house for a few hours while we shop in town. JOIN XOMBA IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD!

That's about it, mamamia

Oh wait, I forget to mention the screaming little kids. Sheesh, how could I possible forget that? That should probably be at the top of the list. :)

Individually, those would be tolerable. Taken together...

The problem with Black Friday isn't the fact that there are crowds or stupid shoppers that do things like stop in the middle of the aisle with their cart while their 20-watt brain figures out where to go first or if they even have enough room on the credit cards to buy anything. I've dealt with these kinds of people throughout the year, but I've learned when and where they tend to shop and adjust my routine accordingly. Black Friday is like a psychological magnet that pulls all of these kinds of people from their beds and tells them that their amateurish shopping behaviors are given a tolerated and even encouraged. Honest confessions & amateur day

Honest confessions are good for the soul. And looks like I'm not alone in this one. Jdubhub, you are correct. Just like some people feel obligated to go wild on New Year's Eve, I suspect it's the same way with Black Friday I'll leave it to them. :) ↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Black Friday is Amateur Day

Just like New Year's Eve is Amateur Night for drinkers, when real drinkers stay home and let the amateurs play the fool, real shoppers stay home on Black Friday and let the amateur shoppers fight over the ten laptops that Walmart hides in the back of the store to get people to wait in line for ten hours. I enjoy recreational shopping and I participated once in Black Friday, but I've learned that the best strategy is to go online and use the power of the Internet to find the best deals from the comfort and sanity of my own home. Online Shopping

Yep, and shopping in your boxer shorts is frowned upon in the malls and stores...at least that's what the security guard told me. EyeClops Bionic Eye
