PLAYBILL (www.playbill.com) has announced the nominees for this year’s Outer Critics Circle Awards, and – surprise of surprise – the much-vilified YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN leads with the most nominations.

The Mel Brooks (and Thomas Meehan) musical earned a whopping 10 nominations, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical (with that many nominations, it BETTER have been represented in that category!), Outstanding New Score, Outstanding Director and Choreographer (both Susan Stroman), and Outstanding Actor in a Musical.

Among revivals, SOUTH PACIFIC bested GYPSY (8 to 6) among musicals (with SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE – 5 nominations – and TAKE ME ALONG also represented.) But they took a back seat to LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES, which leads the play revival contenders with 9 noms.

THE ADDING MACHINE lead the off-Broadway nominees, with a total of 4, including Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical.
