Not to spoil too much of the story (for those who haven't seen it), but the opening episode of SMALLVILLE's eighth season is epic!

In it, Clark Kent–having been stripped of his powers as KalEl, Kryptonian son of Jorel–is brought to the realization that "his destiny lies along a higher path"—but not any path higher than humanity itself would allow ... that he has the gift of immortality, but is destined to live it out mortally.

... Or am I reading more of 'someone else' into him?
