Your Debt's Forgiven, but Then Here Comes the IRS

Here there are two accounts of debts being forgiven: one for a man who couldn't make the payments on his mortgage, one for a woman who was trying to pay off credit card debt. Financial services paid off their debt. Sounds like a relief, right? Maybe...until the good old IRS came along, sending bills for what they perceive as "income" to be taxed.
