Your Thoughts About Cars and Cyclists Sharing the Same Road

So I am sure that everyone including myself has seen the drastic increase in cyclists on the road.  I also think it is great that some people are riding their bike to work now instead of driving.  Saving money and getting in shape at the same time its a great idea right?  I don't have a problem with this but I just feel that lately I am starting to see some actions that shouldn't be taking place.

Now I don't know if cyclists riding on the streets have different set of laws but I was under the assuption that if they were on the road they would follow the same rules right?  Lately I have seen many cyclists run red lights (left turns might I add), which is very dangerous.  I am also seeing them just "get in the way", now don't get me wrong I know they can't go the speed limit.  But when there is a pack of them I think they should at least allow one lane for cars.

I don't want to automatically stereotype by saying "all cyclists break the law" so I thought I'd ask the Xomba community on their experiences from cyclists.  Maybe I just live near some people who do this but the community as a whole aren't like this.  Also I would love to hear from cyclists as well since I don't ride a bike, maybe there is something I don't know about.

I also had a few questions maybe someone can help me answer this:

- I assume we don't need a license to ride a bike on the street, am I allowed to ride anything?  So could I grab my goped to ride on the street?  I was told I couldn't in the past so I really am curious now.

- Are there any insurance requirements for cyclists since they are on the road with motorists who do need insurance. (I know we need them even though there is a large group without them)

Thanks in advance for anyones responses.
