Your Xbox 360 Tray Wont Open?
posted September 2, 2009 - 12:57am
This problem happens in over half of the Xbox’s out there. This is caused by a black rubber band that engages the DVD drive so the drive can open. If your Xbox 360 tray won’t open then
good chances it's that rubber band. Think of a small black rubber band stretched out every day over three years. The rubber weakens over time because its stretched out it doesn’t work anymore.
There is really nothing you can do to prevent this from happening aside from having a 100% climate controlled room just for your Xbox. There is good news though; it can be fixed pretty easy.
The solution from Microsoft.
Make sure that you remove the clear plastic protective strip from the front of the disc tray. This protective strip prevents the disc tray from opening.
- Determine whether the Xbox 360 console is functioning correctly.
- Press the power button, and look at the lights on the front of the console.
- If no lights are illuminated on the front of the console, make sure that the power cord is connected and that the power supply is working.
- If only red lights are illuminated on the front of the console, the console is not working correctly. For more information about what you can determine from the lights on the front of the console, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

- If no picture appears and the disc tray eject button does not work, contact Xbox Customer Service to get the console serviced.
- Press the power button, and look at the lights on the front of the console.
- Press the eject button on the console to open the disc tray.

The solution $150 dollars cheaper then Microsoft!
More and more people today are fixing their own Xbox without Microsoft. Why would you pay Microsoft $150 to fix an item that can be purchased for $200 new? You can even take the controller and cables that come with the $200 Xbox and sell them for $50 on E-bay so you're only paying $150 for a brand new Xbox. I would rather have a brand new Xbox then have Microsoft fix my old one for the same price.
Or if you don't have $150 to shell out for a Xbox then you can allways get a repair video for around $25 that will show you step-by-step how to fix your Xbox. The videos cover everything in a Xbox so if it breaks again you can fix it your self without paying Microsoft a bunch of money.
