Zombi 2 (1980): A Poor Attempt to Cash in on Dawn of the Dead's Success
posted August 28, 2009 - 2:02amZombi 2 classifies itself as an unofficial sequel to Dawn of the Dead (because it was released in Italy under the title Zombi) and you know what? It does a very poor job at that...

Re: A Great Zombie Movie
Hi Jeremy,
Oh I agree about the 3 things you mentioned. I was mostly talking about how it lives up as an "unofficial sequel" to Dawn of the Dead. Also, on a second note, how the first act feels kinda misleading as it gives you the impression that you should expect to see a full scale zombie invasion in NYC when that's not the case (and that would have been far more interesting than the island set up which has been done many times). Those issues aside though, it's not a terribly bad zombie movie.
A Great Zombie Movie
Zombi (or Zombi 2 in Europe) is a great zombie movie.
Not as great as Dawn of the Dead, but still one of the top ten zombie films of all time for a few very good reasons.
1) The zombies look great particularly the one that comes out of the ground on the island. Best looking zombie ever.
2) The scene where the lady gets the splintered wood through the eye is probably one of the most diffucult to watch gore scenes in any film.
3) A zombie fights a shark. Nuff said.
