Alan Rickman, Gaint of British Stage and Screen, Dies at 69

Such a sad day it is… that today we lost an extremely talented and wonderfully delightful person like Alan Rickman! His family confirmed the news on Thursday that the well-loved actor had been suffering from cancer. He was well known for his performances as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series. He was also praised for his role in Robin Hood. He found great commercial success in big-budget films playing “heavy” but it was his work in independent roles that offered him the chance to create memorable characters. Alan was a master at portraying complex antagonists. His voice was marvelous and compelling. His performances were riveting.
As in the Potter books, Snape was always the real if conflicted hero. Flawed, but enduring, sacrifices that everyone, including the reader or viewer, was unaware of until all the pieces came together at the end.
And in Galaxy Quest, he could make you laugh while showing you that life may have more impact than you ever realized.
Galaxy Quest may have been the least of all his works. But I still remember the story of a toddler rushed to a hospital near death, with little hope. The members of the surgical team were all GQ fans. To keep themselves going they kept reciting “Never give up, never surrender”. The toddler lived.

R.I.P Alan Rickman – You Will Forever Be in Our Heart

Comedy, drama, action, musical, thriller – there was no genre Rickman couldn’t handle. What great talent we’ve lost. He was always said to be a kind, loving and caring man. Alan Rickman’s death is a blow to us all. To the screen world as well as the stage but more importantly, his loss will be felt within our very souls. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and loved ones. Age 69 is much too young to pass! All his die-hard fans around the world must be so brokenhearted. I loved all his movies! He was known for so much more, even still. His fight against cancer must have taken its toll on him as it does so many… many others!
Rest in peace, Alan Rickman. May God keep his soul safe in heaven. Condolences to his wife Rima Horton. Thank you for being the hero that Hogwarts deserved, and will always need. You will be remembered for centuries. Never forgotten. Rejoice and know he still lives in your heart!
