
Nayanthara aka Diana Mariam Kurian is an Indian film actress and model who was born on 18 November 1984 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. She is basically famous for her work in South Indian movies. She is one of the most successful actresses in Tamil cinema. She is likewise known as the “Female Super Star of Tamil Cinema” and is otherwise known as “The glamour queen of Tamil cinema”. Nayanthara has a brother who is nine years older named Leno who lives in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She did her schooling in Jamnagar, Gujarat, and Delhi. As her dad was an Indian Air Force official, Nayanthara studied in various parts of India, mainly in North India.

While studying at college, Nayanthara worked part-time as a model. In spite of the fact that she turned down the offer at first, as she was not keen on movies, she gave in finally and agreed to do “just that one film”. Nayanthara made her acting debut with a Malayalam movie Manassinakkare along with Jayaram in 2003. She additionally acted alongside Mohanlal in the super hit Malayalam film Natturajavu before foraying into Tamil and Telugu cinemas. She made her debut in Tamil cinema with Ayya(2005) and Telugu with Lakshmi (2006). Both were successful. In 2010, she likewise made her Kannada film debut through the Kannada-Telugu bilingual film Super, her only appearance in a Kannada movie to date. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actress for her performances in Raja Rani (2013) and Naanum Rowdydhan (2015). Her depiction of Sita in Sri Rama Rajyam (2011) earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress and the Nandi Award for Best Actress.
Kochi Times named her in its “List of 15 Most Desirable Women in 2014“. In 2017, she was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Malayalam Actress for her performance in Puthiya Niyamam (2016), marking her first Filmfare award in her native language.

Did you know that Nayanthara was born and brought up as a Syrian Christian? She converted to Hinduism at the Arya Samaj Temple in Chennai on 7 August 2011. She went through Shuddhi Karma, a method involving a Vedic purification, and a Homam where Nayanthara chanted the hymns from Veda and Gayatri Mantra under the guidance of the priest. After the purification ceremony, a Certificate of Conversion to Hinduism was issued to her and her stage name, Nayanthara, became her official name. She also visited a number of holy places, including Haridwar and Rishikesh in May 2014.

Did you also know that Nayanthara was in a relationship with actor Simbhu with whom she acted in the Vallavan movie? She later started dating married actor-director Prabhu Deva in 2008. In 2010, Prabhu Deva’s wife Latha filed a petition at the family court, seeking directions against Deva from living in a relationship with Nayanthara and requesting a reunion with him.
Moreover, she threatened to go on hunger strike if Prabhu Deva married Nayanthara, while several women’s organizations conducted protests against Nayanthara for bringing shame to the Tamil culture, burning an image of her. In 2012, Nayanthara confirmed that she had ended her relationship with Deva. She is currently in a relationship with the director, actor, and lyric writer Vignesh Shivan, with whom she worked in the Naanum Rowdy Dhaan movie.
