Instagram is the most content-driven social media ever made. I mean like, 500 million monthly users spend hours on Instagram sharing Images and videos. Then you got your following, DMs, sponsors, promotions and a bunch of other stuff. Not to mention that you can build a whole career on Instagram as an Instagram influencer or model.
But, despite all its high achievements and Facebook’s efforts, Instagram is not properly supported on the iPad. Interesting right? To be more precise, Instagram’s layout is not responsive to that of iPads. Now, how ironic is that.
Well, to be honest, I did not know that either, until I tried using it on my iPad. So, if you are one of those few people, who want to use Instagram on their new professional iPad, this article is for you. In this article, I will tell you about the goods and bads of using Instagram on iPad along with a few tricks to make your experience better.
But before that, here is a quick guide for installing Instagram on your iPad.
How to Install Instagram on iPad
- Open your iPad and go to the App store.
- Now on the search menu located on the top, type in Instagram.
- Click on the Instagram logo, and click on Get.
- After the download is complete, click on Open to open Instagram.
From here, you can either log in to your Instagram account or make a new account. To make an Instagram account,
- First, open Instagram on your iPad.
- Then, click on Sign up with email or phone. This will allow you to set up your new Instagram account.
- Now just enter your details, and click on Sign Up. That’s it, you are set to go. All you need to do now is to add your image and description.
Now you see what I was talking about. It is not a full screen, is it? Well, that’s because Instagram is not optimized for the iPad’s screen. However, you do get an option to stretch the layout, so that works as a DIY solution. But is that satisfactory?
No, it is not. Because to be honest, if Instagram was a paid app, the biggest selling point would have been its UI. And the iPad literally destroys that UI. Like whats a point of buying an 11-inch iPad with thin bezels when you will get a 2-inch thick black frame of disappointment.
Why Instagram is not Optimized for iPad?
Just like you, I also wondered why it is like this? Didn’t the developers know about this problem? So I went to google. And after researching this for a while, I finally found a few reasons for this problem, but none of them are official. To put it simply, the developers do know about this issue, but they are yet to release a proper solution for it.
One of the main reasons for that is because Instagram was originally made for sharing photos and videos of different events. And obviously, you will use your smartphone for that unless you are a mad lad and decide to use your Macbook Pro as a camera. Even if you used your iPad for videography and clicking photos, you won’t be able to use Instagram in general as your $150 smart keyboard doesn’t support Portrait mode.
Isn’t it amazing how Apple gives and takes features at the same time? Keeping which aside, here is the big question.
How to use Instagram on iPad?
Before I start giving different tips or solutions for this problem, let me clear one thing. There is no way, you can use Instagram on its official app without stretching the layout on an iPad, even if you use it in the landscape mode.
That being said, here is what you can do-
1. Use Safari to get Instagram for iPad
To keep it simple, you can’t use Instagram on a laptop or a computer. Because there is no software for it. So what you do, you either install an emulator or you use your Browser. In the same way, you can use Safari for Instagram.
To do so,
- Open your browser, and click on the search bar.
- Now type in Instagram.com and press Enter. This will lead you to Instagram’s official login page.
- Simply log in to your account and you are good to go.
This way, you will be able to do multitasking, your keyboard will work and you won’t have to care for optimization or responsiveness. You might face a problem with live streaming or video recording, but you can use a stand to compensate a little.
Use Third-party apps
Even though Instagram doesn’t provide iPad support for its layout, there are several third-party apps that you can use to do the job. With these apps, you will be able to log in to use your Instagram account on your iPad and use it on the full screen. The major difference will be the UI. For every third-party app you choose, you will have a different User Interface.
Another major thing you need to consider is that to use some of these third-party apps, you might have to jailbreak your iPad. So unless using Instagram is worth more than your iPad warranty, don’t use them. To make it more convenient, below are links of a few apps that will help you in this situation.
The fact that we can’t use Instagram’s app on an iPad is not a big deal. But, people who want to use Instagram on the iPad are usually professional content creators. And for them, this implementation can boost their professional careers. But unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that we will get Instagram support for iPads anytime soon.
Given the condition, all you can do is either use your Browser or any third-party application. Obviously, they are not an ideal solution but, they can get the job done. And, at the end of the day, that is all that matters right?
That being said, I hope this article was helpful and you learned something new. If you guys have any queries, feel free to mention them in the comments.
