Although 50 diverse states make up the U.S., with hundreds of cities in between, there are just a few that really capture what it means to be a sports fan. From their historic stadium landmarks to their enthusiastic, die-hard fan-following base, here are some of the best cities to visit if you love to celebrate great sports culture.

Chicago, Illinois

The city of Michael Jordan’s basketball team, need I say more? If you live in Chicago, chances are you also live in sports. Whether it’s the iconic Bulls or NFL Bears, the sports fandom flame never dies out, not even during the off-season. Some of the most historic MLB teams like the White Sox and Cubs call Chicago their home base, as well as NHL’s 6-time winning Blackhawks. If you can brave the negative temperatures of an outdoor event to see one of these thrilling matchups, this is the city for you.

Green Bay, Wisconsin

Although freezing winter temperatures have sometimes deterred visitors to Green Bay, this midwestern city is home to some of the most dedicated and loyal football fans in the entire NFL. The team’s entourage, or “Cheeseheads” as they are commonly known, brave the brutal weather to cheer on their precious Packers every season. Especially during this time of year, with the greatest game in professional football currently happening and Green Bay listed under top odds for Super Bowl futures, you’ll catch energetic Cheeseheads roaming the streets sporting enthusiastic grins covered in green and yellow face paint. The energy is intoxicating.

San Francisco, California

One of America’s most touristic cities is also one that is extremely proud of its professional sports teams. Home to the 8-time World Series Champion Giants as well as a slew of other successful organizations such as the Golden State Warriors and Oakland Athletics, San Francisco sporting franchises keep locals and visitors alike entertained all year round.

New York has the most sports teams in the entire U.S., with 11 major league franchises.

New York City, New York

It is hard to keep count of all the great sporting organizations that are based in New York, but let’s just say there are a whole lot. The Yankees have one of the biggest following bases in the entire MLB. It is the team with the most World Series wins in the history of baseball with 27 victories and has the current favorite to be the MLB MVP winner. Besides the Yankees, the Rangers, Giants, and NFL’s New York Jets also draw tourists from all corners of the world each year. Although many are deterred by how costly the Big Apple can be, traveling to the city may not be as expensive as you think. So, what are you waiting for? You’ve got plenty of options for teams to support!

A historic site in Boston, Fenway Park is the oldest MLB ballpark still used today in the professional league.

Boston, Massachusetts

Home to some of the most enthusiastic fans in the world, Boston does not disappoint when it comes to sports culture. For starters, arguably the best team in the NFL, the New England Patriots, have called Boston home for decades. Equally as exciting, baseball’s history lives here, with iconic venues like Fenway Park selling out tickets since 1912. Besides the professional leagues, visitors can enjoy watching marathons and sailing competitions as well.
