Winter is harsh in many ways, and our skin certainly doesn’t get an easy ride. Biting winds, cold weather, plenty of rain, and a distinct lack of sunlight can leave your skin dry, flaky, and sore. On the other hand, excessive indulgence over the holiday period and an increase in greasy comfort food can lead to breakouts, oily patches, and blackheads. Your skin is bound to go through plenty of ups and downs as the temperature starts to drop.

Skincare becomes more important than ever as we try to keep things balanced and comfortable. But, skincare products can be costly. All of those products that promise eternal youth and a naturally radiant complexion are well out of budget for many of us, especially as we head into an already expensive holiday period.

The good news is, there is plenty that you can do to take care of your skin, keeping it healthy and soft all year round, without breaking the bank.

One of the best things you can do for your skin, whatever the weather, is to keep hydrated. Drinking water helps your body to stay hydrated, leaving your skin soft and plump and helping to avoid dryness. More water also boosts your body’s functions and helps it to flush out toxins. This can decrease the risks of acne and spots. Try to sip water throughout the day and have full glasses with meals.

Watch What You Eat

The foods that you eat have a massive impact on your skin tone. Plenty of fruit and veg helps you to stay hydrated while increasing antioxidants in your body. Greasy food leads to oily skin. Make sure your day to day diet is healthy and filled with fresh foods, and the occasional naughty treat won’t hurt.

Get Plenty of Sleep

You’ve probably noticed that your skin is grey after a long day and a late-night, and there are huge dark circles around your eyes. Prevent this by getting early nights and sticking to a sleep routine as much as possible.

Shop Sensibly

Makeup, cleansers, exfoliators, toners, serums, oils, moisturizers, and all of the other products that you use can be expensive, especially if you favor more expensive products (which can be better value if they last for longer), but there are some great ways to save. Stock up on your favorites during the sales, and never buy anything without checking for a Kohl’s discount code.

Ask for the Right Christmas Gifts

At this time of the year, one of the best ways to save is to ask for gifts instead of buying them yourself. If you want some more expensive skincare products that are out of your budget, ask for them for Christmas, or ask for gift cards for the things that you’d like.

Prioritize Problem Spots

If you are going to spend more money on particular products, make sure you prioritize the things you need. If you get particularly dry lips and hands, make these your focus.

Winter can be hard on your skin, but some of the best things you can do, sleeping, and drinking water, don’t need to cost a penny.
